Overview
Being located up on the hill provides you with beautiful surroundings and is only but a short stroll to bars, restaurants, shops for souvenirs and other village services.
For access to the ski slopes, this is a good section of the Village to be based from, as takes only 6 minutes to a free chair lift, which then ferries you up to the Hikage Gondola area or a 10-minute walk to the Yu-Road, the moving walkway.
Run by a lovely Japanese couple who offer wonderful hospitality, delicious home-cooked very voluminous Japanese meals differing every night and keep a thoroughly clean and well-kept lodge.
The hotel has a large spacious foyer, with a lounge area to relax, complimentary tea and coffee and of course the Japanese beer machines.
Location
Located in the lower part of Nozawa Onsen, close to the site of the famous Dosojin Fire Festival, this Ryokan enjoys a peaceful setting within easy walking distance of the centre of Nozawa Village.

Shimataya Onsen
Situated on top of the hill, overlooking the surrounding greenery, sits the Nozawa onsen.
Although the onsen itself is indoors, large picture windows frame the scenery in almost every direction, offering an ideal place to unwind and take in the landscape.
The onsen is said to be one of the best in the area and, with a view like this, it’s hard to argue.
The onsen is open daily but keep in mind that it’s relatively small and may be crowded in busier times.
If you can get a spot, though, watching the sunset here over the mountainous scenery is incredible and an experience you won’t want to miss!
